This system comprises two items - Ubiquiti RocketDish 5AC and Rocket Prism 5AC Gen2.
Ubiquiti's Rocket 5AC equipment is a moderately priced system capable of providing fast wireless connectivity out to about 25 kilometres. The system uses a RocketDish 5AC which has a 31 dBi gain (740 mm dish), providing a narrow beam capable of operating in very noisy RF environments.
The system can provide up to a theoretical 500 Mb/s connection to a compatible Ubiquiti device using the unlicensed 5 GHz band.
RocketDish are almost always deployed in point-to-point mode, a 1:1 relationship between base station and receiver. The unit can also be used as a long range multipoint station, but this is notably less common due to its higher cost.
We don't sell this type of unit online. Information is listed here to help our clients understand the equipment we've recommended or installed.
R-Spectrum use the RocketDish 5AC Gen2 system in moderately ranged links, generally to a distance of about 15 to 20 kilometres. Like all wireless equipment, the inverse-square law means that operation at the top modulation schemes is limited to short ranges. 256QAM modulation requires a signal strength greater than -65 dBm. Below this threshold the performance difference between ordinary 5 GHz radios and 5AC radios is negligible.
Overall the system represents great value for money. RocketDish 5AC employs a protective radome making it suitable for commercial and light-to-moderate industrial environments.
