The British Indian Ocean Territory is a militarised atoll located in the Indian Ocean, halfway between Tanzania and Indonesia. The British Overseas Territory comprises the seven atolls of the Chagos Archipelago with over 1,000 individual islands, the largest of which is Diego Garcia. The islands are off-limits to the native Chagossians, tourists, and the media. Administered by the UK, spectrum and radio communications regulation is handled by respective UK government departments.
