Telecommunications in Brunei

Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace (Negara Brunei Darussalam), is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, the country is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

The country maintains the highest level of ICT access in South-East Asia courtesy of strong government leadership through its Wawasan Brunei 2035 (Vision 2035) initiative. It's National Broadband initiative completed in 2017 which helped to improve high speed and affordable internet access throughout the country. Strong private sector growth is lead by the two national Mobile Network Operators and one major incumbent fixed service provider (Telekom Brunei Berhad).

Brunei is connected by three submarine cables;

  • Southeast Asia Japan Cable (SJC), completed in 2013
  • Asian-American Gateway (AAG), completed in 2009
  • SEA-ME-WE 3, completed in 2000.
