Telecommunications in Ghana

Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the subregion of West Africa.

The Ghana telecommunications industry is well developed due to a very high degree of competition, one which leads the region, comprising six mobile network operators and ten national fibre operators. According to latest ITU data (June 2017) 3G mobile coverage reaches an estimated 80% of the population, with 4G LTE accessible by 34.9% of Ghanaian citizens; a figure that is however increasing rapidly.

While Ghana has had access to submarine cable via SAT-3 / WASC since 2002, the arrival of an additional four cables since 2010 (Glo-1, Main One, ACE, and WACS) has seen a dramatic increase in international bandwidth and significant reduction in cost.
