2.4 GHz

2.4 GHz ISM Band

Most of the 2400 MHz frequency range is available for use by the general public. Matching ITU Radio Regulations, ACMA permits the operation of all types of radio transmitters within the frequency range 2400 to 2483.50 MHz, a subset of the global 2400 to 2500 MHz ISM band.

The band is clipped short of the full 2500 MHz limit due to the operation of a Standard Time and Frequency Signal (STFS) time synchronisation transmitter which has an allocation beginning at 2498 MHz. The unused 2483.5 to 2500 MHz frequency range has been reserved for ultra-low powered medical implant devices which poses no interference threat to STFS or WiFi.

Operation of transmitters in this frequency range is governed by ACMA LIPD Class 2000. Transmitters operating in this band must fall under one of the below classifications.
