5 GHz Band

The majority of the 5 GHz frequency range is available for use by the general public. ACMA permits the operation of all types of radio transmitters within the frequency range 5150 to 5875 MHz, which includes the 5725 to 5875 MHz ISM band.

Transmitting conditions vary significantly between subsets of the band, with additional conditions imposed to protect the operation of civilian radar, including limiting many of the sub-bands to indoor use.

Operation of transmitters in this frequency range is governed by ACMA LIPD Class 2000. Transmitters operating in this band must fall under one of the below classifications.
